Clinton B. Portis, Esq.
Clinton B. Portis is a managing member and founder of The Law Offices of Clinton B. Portis, Attorney and Counselor at Law. He is a native Texan, born in San Antonio and growing up on a ranch outside New Braunfels. Mr. Portis enlisted in the United States Air Force where he spent 4 years on Active Duty in Texas, Mississippi, Italy, and Oklahoma. During his active service, he was awarded two Air Force Achievement Medals, a NATO Service Medal, was nominated for Airman Below the Zone and participated in Joint Operations over Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo and supported operations in Kuwait and Prince Sultan Air Base, Saudi Arabia. Mr. Portis finished his military service with the Texas Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, receiving an Honorable Discharge with the final rank of Staff Sergeant.
Mr. Portis attended Moscow State University in Moscow, Russia and the University of Texas at San Antonio where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (Magna Cum Laude) and a Master of Arts in History (with Distinction). After earning his undergraduate and graduate degrees, Mr. Portis attended the University of Houston Law Center where he earned a Juris Doctorate. While studying law, Mr. Portis worked for Lone Star Legal Aid as a clerk in the Houston Tenants’ Council, participated in the Consumer Law Clinic, and gained litigation and trial experience in Trial Advocacy, Advanced Trial Advocacy, Pre-Trial Litigation, and Legal Negotiations. He also clerked at Gary E. Patterson P.C., where he was involved in cases covering commercial litigation, criminal defense, business transactions, family law, real property, and personal injury. Shortly before graduation, he worked as a clerk in the Harris County District Attorney’s Office in County Criminal Court 11, where he assisted in the daily docket and successfully prosecuted a DWI case as a first chair, handling every aspect of the trial unassisted.
Prior to founding The Law Offices of Clinton B. Portis, Mr. Portis continued his work at Gary E. Patterson P.C., where he reviewed and drafted contracts, assisted individuals in the formation of businesses, drafted pleadings and motions related to commercial and civil litigation, and managed the firm’s criminal docket.
Mr. Portis is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and is experienced in Criminal Defense and DWI Defense; Business Formation, Transactions, and Commercial Litigation; and Real Property Transactions, Landlord Tenant Law, and Property Management.
